Our first time dining out since COVID-19 restrictions were lifted was at The Anchor by the Bay on Friday night.
A lovely English themed restaurant located at Raby Bay Harbour’s dining precinct in Cleveland, Brisbane South-East QLD.
It was once the site of the Funky Mexican Cantina – a favourite Mexican restaurant that closed its doors in 2019.
The decor of The Anchor by the Bay is very warm and welcoming. There is a nice ambience and helpful staff.
I ordered the ‘Drunken Wings’ ($16) as an appetiser for the table. They were so tasty I forgot to take a photo! The marinade was delicious and the wings were accompanied by house ranch sauce which we loved.
I then ordered one of my favourite meals, ‘Garlic Prawns’ which was king prawns served with a creamy garlic sauce, white rice, lemon and garlic bread. Yumm!
The serving sizes are ample and everything we ate was tasty, at the perfect temperature and we were very happy diners.
Philip chose the ‘Steak and Kidney Pie’ ($16) with tender morsels of steak and kidney in a Guiness sauce, served with mashed potato and mushy peas.
He was very pleased with his selection and having tasted it I can see why. I’ve never been a big fan of kidney but I could be swayed if it was cooked this way. Very flavoursome and tender and the gravy was delicious.
We dined with our friend Tina who ordered the ‘300G Rib Fillet Steak’ ($36) which was served with English garnish of grilled tomato, mushroom, buttered peas, onion rings & chips with the addition of mustard on the side although there was the choice of sauces including Mushroom available for selection.
Tina enjoyed her steak which was cooked perfectly and was delicious. We are looking forward to returning soon and sampling more of the menu.
The staff were a delight and we left with full stomachs and leftovers which will be enjoyed later.
The Anchor by the Bay is owned by Brendan and Tanya who wanted to create a new atmosphere at Raby Bay by introducing some traditional English food with a gourmet twist. Customers can get back to their favourites of Bangers and Mash or tempt their palates with local seafood, steaks to drool over, scrumptious vegan meals and some of the best desserts in town.”
