LOCAL AUTHOR:
MICHELLE WORTHINGTON
Every Christmas for the last three years I have visited Michelle Worthington’s stall at the Twilight Makers Market at Raby Bay Harbour. The market is located in the park next to the Cleveland train station.
Michelle is a local author to the Redland Coast in Brisbane and has a range of children’s books with colourful illustrations designed to please children and adults alike. If you buy her books directly at the markets she will sign them for free. I have purchased four of her books so far and they always delight.
THE BEDTIME BAND
The first Michelle Worthington book I purchased was ‘The Bedtime Band’ in 2017. A fun book with illustrations of Australian Animals by Sandra Temple that delights children and adults alike.
“When night comes and you need to go to sleep, what’s that noise keeping you awake?
Who is in the bedtime band? A great night-time exploration of Australian animals at play … just when the kids need to go to bed!”

EACH THE SAME
The second book I purchased from Michelle was ‘Each The Same’. Illustrated by Ann-Marie Finn. I love this book because it includes a message of inclusion and features farm animals, another book which appealed to my grandson Dylan who loves animals.
“The cows are in the milking shed, the horses are in the stable and the sheep are in the field. They all have their jobs to do to help make the farm a happy place to live. Someone’s squelching in the mud and it’s not the pigs. Who can it be?”

GLITCH
Published in 2017, Michelle’s book called ‘Glitch’ is illustrated by Andrew Planted and features two bugs – Glitch and June – as they explore their environment at the dump. It’s a fun read and has an environmental message. We throw so many items that could be re-used. My grandson liked reading about the adventures of Glitch and June.
“Glitch spends his life searching through mountains of mouldy mess at the dump. He wants to make the fastest billycart ever. This year, he will be competing in the Big Race! But will his twitch stop him from winning?”

An interview with Michelle Worthington about her books and how she started writing for children.
Michelle also runs Sharing Your Story which includes workshops on the writing process. She has written two books for people who want to write their story and then how to market it.
LEAD WITH A STORY
This book acknowledges a greater emphasis on storytelling to build community, especially in the modern world. With the rise of individualism and self-imposed isolation, we are now living in a society that places less and less value in community. This book contains authentic words from leaders in the community who are using their own personal journeys to impact the lives of others. By using storytelling as a tool, it can lead us all back to a place where we realise the importance of building connections in real life, and the best way back from this difference is through sharing our stories.
By following the process outlined in Lead With Story, you will become a master storyteller who builds real, lasting connections that will grow your circle of influence, enjoy the riches that come from helping others, and make a lasting impact in your community.

SHARING YOUR STORY: MARKETING YOUR BOOK WITHOUT THE HARD SELL
She also wrote a book on the subject of marketing your book.
“Sharing Your Story isn’t about simply selling a book as an alternate passive income stream. Finding a way to share your story by speaking from your own experience, implementing an organic book marketing plan as part of your wholistic business mission and adopting a ‘Give Back’ mindset will make permanent and progressive change in your industry. By sharing your story without the hard sell, you will foster long-term relationships with your community and forge mutually beneficial professional connections that will give back to you in the form of sales. This book takes you through the 5 step process of social media marketing and effective promotion that will help creatives take the sales out of selling their books.”
