I am a member of the Australian Greens and will vote for Ian Mazlin, Greens candidate for Oodgeroo, Redlands Coast QLD. Oodgeroo consists of the suburbs of Birkdale, Wellington Point, Ormiston and Cleveland. It also covers the area of North Stradbroke Island. Ian is opposed to the Toondah Harbour Development plans for a development on protected wetlands in Cleveland, Brisbane South-East.

Ian Mazlin was interviewed by the Redland Bulletin. In the article he stated

"This proposal should never have been considered... The major parties say they are waiting for the science but numerous scientific experts have let no doubt as to the effects of this proposed destruction."

In an article by The Guardian: "Toondah harbour wetlands: federal government faces legal action over secret details of donor meetings", it was reported:

“Toondah Harbour, on Moreton Bay, is an important habitat for dugongs, dolphins, whales and sea turtles and is renowned as one of the top migratory bird sites in Australia. Every summer 32 species of migratory shorebirds, comprising 40,000 individual birds, visit Moreton Bay. Around 20% of the world’s eastern curlews and 50% of all grey-tailed tattlers feed, breed and rest at the wetland following their amazing migration from Russia. The public has a right to know about decisions being made in its name, particularly when ministers reject the advice of their own departments.”

Walker Corporation gave $50,000 each to the Liberal and Labor parties during the 2018-19 reporting period. Since 1998, the company’s entities have made political donations worth more than $2.5m... Opponents say no alterations to the plan could compensate for their principal objection: that creating an artificial harbour and high-rise development would require the dredging and destruction of sensitive wetlands."

Please vote GREEN at the Queensland election on Saturday, 31 October. Thousands of native fauna and a RAMSAR protected wetland depend on your vote. I really hope this property development plan doesn't go ahead. It will affect future generations who will blame us for its devastation.

As the song goes, "paved paradise, put up a parking lot".

REDLANDS environmental volunteer and former medical scientist Ian Mazlin will run as the Greens candidate for Oodgeroo in October's state election.

"I am standing for the seat of Oodgeroo because I am tired of seeing big corporations, aided and abetted by the two major parties ignoring the wishes of and trampling the rights of Redlanders who wish to live and raise their families in this beautiful part of the world."

He said the proposed Toondah Harbour development defied belief.

"This proposal should never have been considered," he said.

"The major parties say they are waiting for the science but numerous scientific experts have let no doubt as to the effects of this proposed destruction.
"Redlanders know that we don't have the infrastructure in place to cope with what is proposed and that the Cleveland CBD small businesses would be badly affected."
As well as opposing the Toondah Harbour development, Mr Mazlin said he would support Greens Maiwar MP Michael Berkman's free public transport initiative.
"Jobs can be created by investing in renewables both on an individual business scale and a larger but still local scale," he said.
"We would make developers pay for public services and infrastructure we all need.
"We would ban donations to political parties from for-profit corporations like property developers, financial institutions, gambling and fossil fuel corporations, ban cash-for-access meetings with government ministers and MPs, and give Queensland's corruption watchdog ... real power.
"I believe that all Queenslanders ultimately want a fair society, healthy economy and a clean environment."
Mr Mazlin will take on Labor candidate Irene Henley, LNP incumbent Mark Robinson and independent Claire Richardson.
The state election will take place on October 31.

My paternal grandmother Barbara Hazelgrove is famo

My paternal grandmother Barbara Hazelgrove is famous for appearing at the end of the old Bega Cheese advertisement, where she says ‘But Bega is famous for Bega’

She saw an advert in the local paper where they offered $400 and some Bega Cheese products in exchange for her time. She was very happy and proud to be in the advertisement that was in regular rotation on free to air tv.

She is one amazing woman , one of a kind. I miss our travels and adventures. She taught me many things, amongst them - how to talk to strangers.

‘A stranger is just a friend you haven’t met yet’

She was a very talented photographer, the family historian. I have a large case full of her black and white photos which are like precious gems to me. She painstakingly wrote on the back of many of them and we would often get out them out and she would tell me about our family history and ‘introduce me’ to her friends and acquaintances through letters , when apart, and photos and phone calls when I was visiting.

She gave me some very sage advice over the years, some they stand out are:

‘Vanessa. You’ve got a voice - use it’

‘If you don’t like something - do something about it! Don’t keep complaining about a problem or situation and expect the situation to change without action’

‘Measure twice and cut once’

She would take photos of people and get them to relax by making them laugh or guiding them into a pose.

I remember one time when there was a couple nearby and she had her camera out, having taken photos of me at Eden Wharf, New South Wales. She asked if she could take their photo and when they were a little stiff and formal she made them laugh and relax.

“Put your arm about her. Give her a kiss 😘 ‘

The photos are were amazing and she gave them her business card which had her phone and address on it and a list of
the many jobs and careers she had over the years, some of which included:

o Kindergarten teacher 👩‍🏫

o Rabbit Breeder 🐇

o Chicken plucker 🐓

o Sailor 🛥

o Second hand store owner

o Magician’s assistant

o Photographer 📸

o ice cream van owner 🍦

o Secretary

... and available for adventures!

She ‘calls a spade a spade’ which means that she didn’t
